PRIVACY POLICY
GoVelo Innovations LLC ("GoVelo," "we," "us") built the GoVelo app as a commercial service. This Privacy Policy describes what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using GoVelo, you agree to the practices described here.
1. DATA WE COLLECT AND WHY
We collect only the data necessary to provide rides, delivery, and driver services. The categories of personal data we collect, whether each is linked to your identity, and the purpose for each are listed below.
A. Data you provide directly
- Account information: Name, email address, phone number, and profile photo. Linked to your identity. Used to create and manage your account, communicate with you, and identify you to drivers/riders.
- Payment information: When you add a payment method, card data is handled by our payment processor (Stripe). We do not store full card numbers on our servers; we store a token and the last four digits. Linked to your identity. Used to charge for rides, delivery, and wallet top-ups.
- Ride and delivery details: Pickup, drop-off, stops, scheduled times, and special instructions. Linked to your identity. Used to fulfill and route your trip.
- Saved addresses: Home, work, vacation rental, and custom shortcuts. Linked to your identity. Used for faster booking.
- Teen account information: If you create a Teen Account, we collect the teen's name, date of birth, phone number, and email, plus your (the parent's) name and driver's license photo for verification. Linked to the respective identity. Used to enable parent-managed rides for riders aged 13-17.
B. Data collected automatically
- Precise location: We collect your device's precise GPS location (a) when you have the app open, to show your position on the map and match you with nearby drivers, and (b) for drivers, during an active online session or active ride, including when the app is in the background, to enable navigation, pickup/drop-off, airport FIFO queueing, and safety features. Location is linked to your identity for the duration of your session and is used only to provide the service. You can withhold location by disabling it in your device settings, though core ride and driver features will not work without it.
- Ride and driving metrics: For active rides we may calculate distance, duration, and a driving safety score based on GPS movement (e.g., hard braking, rapid acceleration, speeding). Linked to your identity. Used for safety, fare calculation, and driver quality.
- Camera and photos: We access the camera or photo library only when you choose to capture a profile photo, a driver's license or ID, a proof-of-delivery photo, or an alcohol ID verification image. Images are linked to your identity and used for verification and compliance. We do not access the camera or photos at other times.
- Microphone: The in-app GoVelo voice assistant uses the microphone only when you tap and hold the microphone button. Audio is processed to interpret your request and is not stored for profiling. Linked to your session.
- Device and usage information: We log app usage, crash reports, and standard device identifiers to operate and improve the service. Linked to your account for support and analytics.
C. Data collected from third parties
- Sign-in with Apple / Google: If you use Apple Sign In or Google Sign In, we receive the email and name associated with that account to create your GoVelo account. We do not receive your Apple or Google password.
- Driver background and licensing data: For driver applicants, we collect driver's license number and state, vehicle details, and insurance certificate, and we obtain your consent to a background check and driving-record check. Linked to the driver's identity. Used to verify eligibility and comply with safety requirements.
2. HOW WE USE YOUR DATA
We use the data we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the ride, delivery, and driver services.
- Match riders with drivers and route trips.
- Process payments, issue refunds, and pay driver earnings.
- Verify identity and age (including alcohol-delivery ID checks).
- Operate the airport FIFO queue system at PNS, VPS, and ECP.
- Send ride status, safety, and account notifications by SMS, push, or email.
- Investigate disputes, safety incidents, and reports.
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not use your personal data to build a profile for the purpose of serving third-party advertisements.
3. TRACKING DISCLOSURE
GoVelo does not track you across other companies' apps or websites for advertising or measurement purposes. We do not participate in cross-app advertising networks and do not share data with data brokers. Because we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites, App Tracking Transparency does not apply to our use of your data.
4. HOW WE SHARE YOUR DATA
We share your data only as described below. We do not sell your personal data.
A. Between riders and drivers
- To your assigned driver: We share your first name, pickup location, and (for teen rides) relevant trip details so the driver can complete the trip.
- To your rider: We share the driver's first name, vehicle make/model/color, license plate, and rating.
- After a lost-item report is filed and the return fee is paid, we share the relevant phone number between rider and driver to coordinate the return.
B. With service providers who process data on our behalf
- Stripe: Payment processing, card tokenization, driver payouts via Stripe Connect, and bank account verification. Stripe receives your payment and, for drivers, banking and tax (W-9) information.
- Google / Apple: Sign-in services. Google also provides maps, directions, and geocoding; Apple provides Sign in with Apple.
- Mapbox: Map rendering and location search.
- 800.com / Twilio: SMS delivery for ride and account notifications.
- Google Roads API: Snapping GPS points to roads for accurate distance and routing.
These providers process data under their own privacy policies and only as needed to deliver the service.
C. For legal and safety reasons
- We may disclose data to law enforcement, regulators, or courts when required by law, subpoena, or to protect the safety, rights, or property of our users or the public.
D. Corporate transactions
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, data may be transferred; we will notify you before your data is transferred under different terms.
5. DATA RETENTION
- Active accounts: We retain your data while your account is active.
- Ride and transaction records: Retained for the period required by law and for tax, accounting, and dispute-resolution purposes (typically up to 7 years).
- Driver license and verification data: Retained per regulatory and safety requirements.
- Background check data: Retained by the background check provider per their policy.
- Deleted accounts: When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are legally required to retain it.
6. YOUR RIGHTS AND CHOICES
You can:
- Access and request a copy of your personal data.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your account and associated data directly in the app (Account > Delete Account) or by contacting us.
- Opt out of marketing communications by toggling SMS notifications in your profile or replying STOP to any SMS.
- Withdraw consent for location, camera, or microphone at any time in your device settings.
- If you are a California resident, you have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know, delete, and opt out of the sale of personal data. We do not sell your data.
- If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you have GDPR rights including access, rectification, erasure, portability, and objection.
7. DATA SECURITY
We use industry-standard safeguards including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, and tokenized payment data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data.
8. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS
Your data may be processed in the United States. If you are outside the U.S., you consent to this transfer. We take reasonable measures to ensure your data is protected consistent with this policy.
9. CHILDREN'S AND TEEN PRIVACY
- General use: GoVelo is not intended for users under 18, except for Teen Accounts.
- Teen Accounts: A parent or guardian may create a Teen Account for a rider aged 13-17. The parent manages the account, approves rides, and provides payment. We collect the teen's name, date of birth, and contact details for this purpose. Parents can delete a Teen Account at any time.
- We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
10. COOKIES AND ANALYTICS
We use cookies and similar technologies only where necessary for the app to function and to analyze usage in aggregate. We do not use cookies for cross-site advertising.
11. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy. We will notify you of significant changes by email or in-app notification and update the "Last updated" date.
